Palestinian Photographer Chased and Beaten by Settlers During Olive Harvest

Palestinian photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh became the victim of the violence he had been documenting when settlers chased and attacked him during the olive harvest season.

Ashtiyeh had been covering settler assaults when the attackers turned on him, pursuing him and beating him with rifle butts, according to the account of the incident.

The settlers also stole his equipment. The account did not specify what was taken or detail the extent of any injuries he sustained.

Soldiers were present during the assault but did not intervene, the account said.

The incident turned Ashtiyeh from a witness documenting attacks into a target himself, highlighting the dangers facing Palestinian photographers covering settler violence.
