How to Achieve Accurate Home Blood Pressure Readings Using the Medical 7-2-2 Rule?

Cardiologists recommend following a specific time protocol to ensure the accuracy of blood pressure measurements and avoid common diagnostic errors.

Cardiovascular experts emphasize that relying on a single random blood pressure reading does not reflect the patient's true condition, as numbers are affected by stress and physical exertion. Therefore, a medical protocol known as the 7-2-2 rule was developed to obtain accurate results reflecting arterial health.

This rule is based on measuring blood pressure for seven consecutive days, twice daily in the morning and evening, recording two readings separated by one minute in each session. This allows doctors to calculate the actual average of pressure levels and exclude high readings resulting from momentary anxiety or sudden emotional changes.

Specialists stress the necessity of sitting in a comfortable position for five minutes before measuring and refraining from caffeine and smoking, while keeping the arm at heart level. These simple steps contribute to accurately diagnosing hypertension and prescribing the appropriate treatment to avoid serious cardiac complications.
