Saudi Arabia Selects ‘A Matter of Life or Death’ for International Oscar Race

Saudi Arabia has selected “A Matter of Life or Death,” directed by Anas Batahaf, as its entry for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards.

The choice puts the film forward to represent the kingdom in the international feature competition. It is a national submission, rather than confirmation of an Oscar nomination.

The winning film in the category is due to be announced in March 2027, when the awards cycle reaches its conclusion.

The selection gives Batahaf’s film a place in Saudi Arabia’s Oscar campaign, with its progress toward a nomination still to be determined.
