Serbia’s Vucic acknowledges election defeat to student-led protest movement

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat on Sunday in parliamentary elections to a protest movement led by students.

“It is clear that we have lost these elections,” Vucic said, acknowledging the result against the backdrop of the student-led challenge.

The concession came amid fears of unrest, with concerns over how the electoral outcome would be received.

Warnings that the ruling party might refuse to accept defeat added to the uncertainty, despite Vucic’s public acknowledgment of the loss.
