Ethiopian Forces Regain Control of Airport in Tigray Capital

Ethiopian government forces have regained control of the main airport in Mekelle, the capital of the northern Tigray region, according to three sources who reported the development on Saturday.

The recapture marks a major setback for the opposition alliance in one of its key strongholds.

The reported change in control concerns the airport. The information provided does not establish whether government forces also control the rest of Mekelle.

Details of how the airport was retaken, including whether fighting preceded its capture, were not available in the account.
