Luxor Prepares for Total Solar Eclipse on August 2, 2027

Egypt’s city of Luxor is preparing for an exceptional astronomical event as the path of a total solar eclipse crosses the city on August 2, 2027.

The period of totality could last about six minutes and 23 seconds, according to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the solar disk for observers within the path of totality. Daylight briefly gives way to darkness during this phase.

Luxor’s position along that path will put the city in the spotlight, offering an opportunity to witness the sun’s complete disappearance behind the moon.

The date marks a notable event on the city’s calendar, with its ancient monuments set to form the backdrop to a rare celestial spectacle.
