Palestinian Photographer Chased and Beaten by Settlers During Olive Harvest

Palestinian photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh became the victim of the violence he had been documenting when settlers chased and assaulted him during the olive harvest season.

Ashtiyeh had been covering settler attacks when the assailants turned on him, pursuing him and beating him with rifle butts.

The settlers also stole his equipment. Soldiers were present during the attack but did not intervene.

The assault turned Ashtiyeh from a witness recording attacks into a target himself, underscoring the dangers facing Palestinian photographers covering settler violence.
