Can Social Media Shape Our Romantic Relationships?

Social media offers a constant stream of ideas about love, from romantic gestures to advice on handling disagreements. That content raises a question: could what we watch and read influence how we experience our own relationships?

One possible pressure is comparison. A carefully selected glimpse of another couple’s happiness can become a benchmark for a relationship whose everyday difficulties remain far more visible to the people living it. What appears online, however, may reveal little about life beyond the post.

Relationship advice presents a different challenge. Content about communication and boundaries may offer useful starting points for reflection, but broad judgments cannot account for every couple’s circumstances.
