Egypt and Sudan Deny Ethiopian Claims of Backing Abiy Ahmed’s Opponents

Egypt and Sudan have rejected accusations by Ethiopia’s army chief that they are supporting a new alliance seeking to overthrow Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.

Field Marshal Berhanu Jula accused the two countries of backing a coalition of armed and political groups opposed to the Ethiopian government.

An Egyptian diplomatic source denied the allegations, saying Cairo does not interfere in Ethiopia’s internal crisis.

The source said Addis Ababa should address its domestic problems rather than hold outside parties responsible for them.

The Sudanese army also issued a statement rejecting the Ethiopian accusations, describing them as “baseless.”
