Egypt’s NGO Law Sets Framework for Regional Federations

Egypt’s Law No. 149 of 2019, which regulates civil society work, provides for Egyptian associations and civil foundations to establish a single regional federation within each governorate.

The provision applies to organisations whose administrative headquarters are located within the governorate’s boundaries. Their location determines the regional federation they fall under.

Associations and foundations are covered regardless of their activities, meaning the framework is not limited to organisations working in a particular field.

The law therefore sets out a geographically based structure: one regional federation bringing together the Egyptian associations and civil foundations headquartered in each governorate.
