Bangkok Residents Turn Flooded Streets Into Temporary Floating Markets

Residents of Bang Kapi in Bangkok have found a way to keep selling food despite severe flooding, turning their submerged streets into makeshift floating markets.

Using foam boxes to hold food for sale, residents adapted their trading to the floodwater rather than waiting for the streets to clear.

The improvised markets drew attention on social media, where scenes of the floating food stalls brought the neighbourhood’s response to the flooding into focus.

Unlike a traditional floating market, the scene in Bang Kapi emerged out of necessity. It reflected residents’ resourcefulness in keeping everyday activity going amid a crisis.
