Egypt Relies on Nile for 98% of Its Water, Irrigation Minister Says

Egypt depends on the Nile River for 98% of its water, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam said.

Sweilam took part in a session titled “Water Scarcity and Non-Conventional Water Resources” at the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum.

The session focused on water scarcity and non-conventional resources, placing Egypt’s heavy reliance on the Nile within a broader discussion of water supply challenges.

The minister’s statement underscored the river’s central role in meeting Egypt’s water needs, as the forum addressed resources beyond conventional supplies.
