Israel’s ‘Change Bloc’ United Parties Against Netanyahu

Israel’s “Change Bloc” emerged as an informal political grouping that brought together parties from the right, centre and left with a shared objective: ending the rule of Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu.

The bloc gained prominence during the political crisis that Israel experienced between 2019 and 2022. Opposition to Netanyahu provided a common focus for parties drawn from across the Israeli political spectrum.

Rather than constituting a single party, the grouping connected political forces with differing ideological positions. Its breadth reflected the central role that Netanyahu’s leadership played in bringing these parties together.

The term “Change Bloc” thus described an alliance defined primarily by its goal of replacing Netanyahu, rather than by a unified right-wing, centrist or left-wing programme.
