Saudi Coffee Cup Reply Draws 19 Million Views After Flydubai Landing in Tabuk

A photograph of a full coffee cup became the focus of a viral social media exchange after an Israeli praised Saudi coffee following the landing of a Flydubai aircraft in Tabuk.

A Saudi social media user responded to the praise with the image, offering a silent reply whose meaning rested on a cultural reference rather than words.

In the custom invoked by the response, a cup filled to the brim signals that a guest is unwelcome. The photograph therefore conveyed rejection, despite coffee’s familiar association with hospitality.

The reply drew more than 19 million views, turning a seemingly simple image into the centre of widespread online attention.

The exchange highlighted how a gesture associated with serving coffee can carry a pointed message, with the cup’s fullness providing the key to understanding the response.
