Ahmed Shawqi Proposed as Featured Figure for Cairo Book Fair 2027

Poets and critics serving on the Supreme Council of Culture’s Poetry Committee have proposed choosing Ahmed Shawqi as the featured figure of the next Cairo International Book Fair in 2027.

The proposal would place Shawqi, known as the “Prince of Poets,” at the centre of the forthcoming edition’s tribute to a literary figure.

The suggestion came from a number of committee members, rather than being presented as a formal selection by the fair’s organisers.

Shawqi’s designation remains a proposal, with no confirmation of a final decision provided in the announcement.
