Egypt’s 660-Kilometre High-Speed Rail Corridor to Link Two Seas

Egypt is building a high-speed rail corridor stretching 660 kilometres from Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, with 21 stations linking the Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts. The route promises to reshape travel across the country, with a journey time of three hours and 15 minutes.

The project is more than a new passenger railway. It is designed as a corridor connecting ports, factories and cities, placing transport at the centre of a broader economic link between the two coasts.

For industry, the potential value lies in bringing production centres closer to maritime gateways. Better connections between factories and ports could make the movement of goods more efficient and strengthen links between domestic production and trade.

For cities along the route, shorter journeys could improve access to jobs and markets. The stations would provide points of connection across a corridor whose economic role extends beyond its coastal endpoints.
