Indonesia’s WHO Leadership Candidate Urges US to Rejoin Organisation

Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has called on the United States to return to the World Health Organization after withdrawing at the beginning of this year.

Sadikin, whom Indonesia has selected as its candidate to lead the WHO, said the United States should rejoin the organisation.

His appeal comes as he seeks the post of director-general, putting the question of renewed US membership among the issues he has publicly addressed.

The remarks provided no details on how a US return might be arranged or whether Sadikin had discussed the matter with American officials.
