Athens Summit Set Against Tensions With Turkey as Egypt Prepares Farafra Land Handover

A summit in Athens is being framed as a response to Turkish provocations, while Egypt’s domestic agenda includes a planned land handover to young people and preparations for further releases of youths held over protests.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is expected to hand over 10,000 feddans in Farafra to young people within days. Meanwhile, Mohamed Hassan has put forward a new reconciliation initiative, though details of the proposal were not provided.

The Interior Ministry is preparing a new list of young people held in connection with protests for release. The ministry has also undergone three rounds of personnel changes within months to fill vacant posts.

On the diplomatic front, a six-party meeting on negotiations over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is scheduled in Khartoum for the day after tomorrow.

Other domestic developments include the dismissal of seven railway officials over poor performance and a ban on installing conventional electricity meters beginning in January.
