Qatari Mediators in Tehran in Push to Ease Regional Tensions

Qatari mediators were in Tehran on Sunday as part of an effort to reduce regional tensions, according to an official familiar with the matter.

The official said the mediation push was being coordinated with the United States. No further details of that coordination were provided.

The mediators’ presence in the Iranian capital points to a diplomatic channel aimed at de-escalation, though the scope of their discussions was not disclosed.

The brief account did not identify the Qatari mediators or say whom they were meeting in Tehran. It also offered no indication of whether the effort had produced any progress.
