Russia Says US Ties Economic Cooperation to Ukraine Settlement

The United States continues to make a resumption of economic cooperation with Russia conditional on a settlement over Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov outlined the US position as contacts between representatives of the two countries continue. His remarks indicated that those exchanges have not removed Washington’s stated condition for restoring economic ties.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, progress toward a Ukraine settlement remains central to whether economic cooperation can resume. He did not describe the ongoing contacts as a breakthrough on that issue.

The remarks underscored the distinction between maintaining dialogue and restarting economic cooperation, with Moscow portraying the latter as still tied to an agreement over Ukraine.
