Infantino Claims Broad Support for Re-Election as No Rival Emerges

FIFA president Gianni Infantino says he has the backing of an “overwhelming majority” of member associations as he seeks re-election, with no challenger emerging so far.

The absence of a rival puts the prospect of a fourth term in focus, although his assertion of broad support does not amount to a confirmed election outcome.

His bid comes despite criticism of an abandoned plan to sell part of the rights to the World Cup to private investors.

That proposal has placed scrutiny on his leadership, but Infantino’s account suggests he believes the controversy has not substantially weakened his standing among member associations.

For now, the race remains without an announced opponent, leaving any challenge to his continued presidency yet to take shape.
