French Student Protests Spark Political Dispute Ahead of Presidential Election

Protests by secondary school students in France have become the focus of a political dispute after violence and clashes with police marred the demonstrations.

The unrest has drawn competing responses from political parties, with their positions on the events turning into an exchange of accusations ahead of the presidential election.

The confrontations have added a public-order dimension to the student protests, bringing both the demonstrations and the police response into the political debate.

As the election approaches, the dispute has extended beyond events on the streets, with rival parties clashing over how to interpret the unrest.
