France Braces for Possible Renewed Unrest as Saturday Protests Begin

France is on alert for a possible new wave of unrest as protesters mobilize for demonstrations across the country on Saturday.

Authorities fear a repeat of the rioting seen last weekend, with the prospect of further disorder overshadowing preparations for the gatherings.

The nationwide call to demonstrate has put the course of Saturday’s protests under scrutiny, particularly whether they will remain peaceful or lead to renewed clashes.

The concerns reflect the tension left by last weekend’s events. Further rioting remains a risk rather than a confirmed development as the demonstrations get under way.
