Higher China Shipping Costs Add to Price Pressures in Iran

Rising shipping costs from China are adding to the price of spare parts and other goods in Iran, passing another layer of import expenses on to consumers.

The pressure extends beyond freight. More expensive foreign currency, fees and disrupted transport routes are combining to raise the cost of bringing goods into the country.

For importers, those expenses build up before a shipment reaches the market. Higher transport charges add to the bill, while currency costs and fees make the same goods more expensive to secure and deliver.

Consumers can feel the impact through both purchases and repairs. When imported spare parts cost more, replacing a component can become more expensive alongside buying a finished product.

Shipping is therefore part of the explanation for higher prices, but not the whole story. The final bill facing Iranian households reflects the combined burden of freight, currency costs, fees and transport disruption.
