Luxury Apartments and Costly Cars Discovered Inside Indonesian Prison

Investigators have discovered a luxury residential complex inside a prison near the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, in a case that has sparked widespread controversy.

The complex contained apartments equipped with air conditioning and large television sets. Expensive cars were also found inside the prison.

The discovery has raised suspicions that some inmates were receiving exceptional treatment, with access to comforts far beyond what would ordinarily be associated with prison life.

The available details do not establish who used the apartments or owned the vehicles. They also do not explain how the luxury complex came to operate within the prison.

The case has brought scrutiny to conditions inside the facility and to whether certain prisoners were allowed privileges unavailable to others.
