Manal Awad Calls for Innovative Finance and Debt Relief to Close Africa’s Adaptation Gap

Manal Awad has called for innovative financing tools and lower debt burdens to help Africa address the funding gap for climate adaptation.

The Ministry of Local Development and Environment participated in a side event held on the sidelines of the Alamein Africa Business Forum 2026, focusing on the economic potential of adaptation.

The session, titled “Climate Adaptation as an Economic Activity — An Investment Opportunity to Strengthen Africa’s Resilience,” framed efforts to prepare for climate impacts as an opportunity for investment.

Awad’s message linked the need to expand adaptation financing with easing debt pressures, highlighting both as priorities for strengthening Africa’s resilience to climate change.
