Russia Says US Ties Economic Cooperation to Ukraine Settlement

The United States continues to make the resumption of economic cooperation with Russia conditional on a settlement over Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov said the US position remained in place despite ongoing contacts between representatives of the two countries.

His remarks drew a distinction between maintaining bilateral communication and restoring economic cooperation, which Moscow says Washington still links to resolving the Ukraine issue.

The statement gave no details on the nature of the continuing contacts or the terms of a possible settlement that would allow economic cooperation to resume.
