US Spy Satellite Explosion Leaves Pentagon Facing Space Mystery

The explosion of an American spy satellite in low Earth orbit has stirred debate in US military circles, with the cause of the incident still unknown.

Details of the episode were recently declassified, bringing renewed attention to the loss of the satellite and the unanswered questions surrounding its destruction.

The available information does not identify the satellite or specify when the explosion occurred. It also provides no explanation for what triggered the breakup.

The uncertainty leaves a central question unresolved for the Pentagon: why a US reconnaissance satellite exploded while in orbit. The disclosure has brought the incident into public view without settling that mystery.
