Defending Champions Sundowns Exit African Champions League in Round of 32

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked out of the CAF Champions League on Friday after a 1-1 home draw with Angola’s Wiliete in the second leg of their round-of-32 tie.

The result ended Sundowns’ title defence at an early stage, leaving the reigning champions out of the competition before the group phase.

Playing in front of their own supporters, Sundowns could not secure the result needed to keep their campaign alive.

Wiliete emerged from the tie with a place in the next round, eliminating the holders on their own ground.
