Luxor Prepares for Total Solar Eclipse on August 2, 2027

Egypt’s southern city of Luxor is preparing for an exceptional astronomical event as the path of a total solar eclipse crosses it on August 2, 2027.

Totality could last around six minutes and 23 seconds, according to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, placing Luxor in the spotlight for the celestial spectacle.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun’s visible face for observers within the path of totality.

For Luxor, the event will bring a brief spell of daytime darkness to a city best known for its ancient monuments. Its position along the eclipse’s path will give observers there an opportunity to witness the full phenomenon.
