Ronaldo Breaks Silence on Portugal Camp Exit, Citing ‘Broken Promises’

Cristiano Ronaldo gave his account on Tuesday of the events leading up to his departure from Portugal’s national team camp, saying a dispute with the coach centred on “broken promises.”

The Portuguese star said the failure to honour those promises was behind the disagreement that preceded his exit. His explanation put the dispute at the heart of his account of the angry episode.

Ronaldo also apologised for leaving the camp, acknowledging his own conduct as he set out his version of what had happened.

He extended that apology to supporters for not greeting them, addressing his behaviour towards the fans as well as his decision to depart.
