Messi Awarded Honorary Doctorate Ahead of Final Argentina Appearance

Lionel Messi was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Buenos Aires on Tuesday in recognition of his sporting career.

The honour came just hours before the Argentine star was due to make his final international appearance for his country against Benin.

The university’s recognition marked an academic tribute to Messi as he prepared to close his time with the national team.

The award and the farewell match brought together two milestones for the footballer, pairing recognition of his career with his last appearance in Argentina colours.
