Ramadan Abdel Moez: Fasting Stands Apart as an Act of Restraint

Islamic preacher Sheikh Ramadan Abdel Moez said fasting is distinguished from the other pillars of Islam by its emphasis on abstaining, describing it as a form of worship rooted in restraint.

Abdel Moez said drawing closer to God and developing a Muslim’s character depend on two inseparable paths: carrying out what God commands and avoiding what He forbids.

His remarks placed abstention alongside action as an essential part of religious devotion, rather than treating worship solely as the performance of prescribed duties.

Within that framework, he highlighted fasting as a distinctive expression of worship through what a believer refrains from doing.
