October War Victory Built on Scientific Approach, Mohamed El-Ghobary Says

Major General Mohamed El-Ghobary, an October War veteran and former director of the National Defence College, said the victory was built on a comprehensive scientific approach, not enthusiasm alone.

El-Ghobary rejected a view of the war that reduces its success to a fighting “spirit.” He described it instead as the product of a “scientific methodology.”

His remarks drew a distinction between the motivation to fight and the approach underpinning the victory. In his assessment, enthusiasm by itself does not adequately explain the achievement.

The former National Defence College director placed that systematic approach at the centre of his account of the October War, stressing its importance to understanding the victory.
