‘Modern Communication Media Novel’ Category Raises Questions in Egypt’s 2027 State Awards

The inclusion of a category titled “Modern Communication Media Novel” in Egypt’s 2027 State Encouragement Awards for Literature has prompted questions about the kinds of works it is intended to recognise.

The title links the novel to modern communication media, but the information provided does not set out a definition or eligibility criteria. Its wording alone leaves the category’s scope unclear.

A key distinction is whether it refers to novels published through digital platforms or to fiction that incorporates modern communication into its narrative form. These are different possibilities, rather than confirmed interpretations of the category.

Clarification of the award’s rules would help writers determine whether their work qualifies. Until those details are available, the category’s title should not be taken as confirmation that any novel published online, or featuring digital communication, is eligible.
