El-Gendy: Critical Thinking and Original Sources Key to Tackling Online Fakes

Dr Mohamed El-Gendy, an international cybersecurity expert, said confronting fake content and misleading information online requires more than technical tools designed to detect manipulation.

He identified critical thinking and tracing information back to its original source as the starting points for tackling online falsehoods.

His remarks place scrutiny of information at the centre of the response, rather than treating verification as a task that technology alone can perform.

The distinction is between using a tool to help detect fabricated material and critically assessing the information itself. El-Gendy’s message emphasises the need for that broader approach when evaluating content online.
